What is MLD?
Unlike a deep tissue massage that works on the muscles, MLD is a profoundly gentle touch. It uses light, rhythmic strokes to map the flow of your lymphatic system. Think of it as "tuning" your body’s internal plumbing. Because the lymph system sits just beneath the skin, a heavy hand would actually miss the target. This technique requires the steady, loving precision of an experienced therapist to move fluid toward the lymph nodes for drainage.
How Does It Work?
The lymphatic system is your body’s waste-disposal unit. It carries away toxins, waste, and excess water. However, unlike the heart, the lymph system doesn't have a "pump." It relies on movement and breath. MLD acts as that manual pump, gently encouraging the heart, mind, and body to release what no longer serves them.
What are the Benefits?
- Deep Detoxification: Clears out metabolic waste and toxins.
- Reduced Swelling: Dramatically decreases water retention and "puffiness" in the face and limbs.
- Immune Support: Stimulates the circulation of white blood cells.
- Skin Radiance: Specifically for the face, MLD reduces dark circles, clears the complexion, and provides a natural "lift."
- Stress Relief: The rhythmic nature of the touch shifts your nervous system into a state of deep "rest and digest" (parasympathetic) healing.
Who Can Benefit?
Almost everyone! It is especially beneficial for those:
- Recovering from surgery or injury (to reduce bruising and swelling).
- Dealing with seasonal allergies or sinus congestion.
- Managing chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia.
- Looking for a non-invasive, holistic "glow-up" for their skin.
How Often Should You Get It?
To see the most "beautiful and balanced" results, I typically recommend:
- Acute Issues (Post-surgery/Injury): 1–2 times per week for a short duration.
- Maintenance & Glow: Once every 2–4 weeks to keep the system flowing and the skin vibrant.
"MLD is where science meets soul. By clearing the pathways of the body, we create space for the heart and mind to feel light and renewed." — Candie

Important Note: Contraindications for MLD
While Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle and restorative "art of flow," it is a powerful modality that moves fluid through the body. To ensure the highest level of care for our patients, please note the following contraindications.
MLD is not recommended for individuals with the following conditions:
- Acute Infections: If a patient has a fever, flu, or a skin infection, MLD can potentially spread the infection through the lymphatic system.
- Congestive Heart Failure (CHF): Because MLD increases the volume of fluid returning to the heart, it can put undue stress on a weakened heart.
- Acute Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) or Blood Clots: There is a risk of dislodging a clot.
- Active Malignancy (Untreated Cancer): While MLD is wonderful for post-cancer lymphedema, it must be cleared by an oncologist if the cancer is currently active or untreated.
- Severe Kidney Failure: The kidneys must be healthy enough to process the extra fluid moved during the session.
- Undiagnosed Lumps: Any new, unusual, or painful swelling should be medically evaluated before MLD is performed.
"At the heart of my practice is the well-being of the patient. If you have any of the conditions above, please consult with Dr. Ted or your primary physician before booking your session. We want to ensure your path to balance is as safe as it is beautiful." — Candie
