Introducing Galleri: A New Tool in Cancer Screening

I’m excited to offer our patients a powerful new screening option — the Galleri® multi-cancer early detection test. It’s a simple blood test that looks for cancer signals from more than 50 different cancers with a single blood draw.

Galleri represents a new generation of cancer screening. While traditional screening tests look for one cancer at a time (such as mammograms or colon cancer screening), Galleri analyzes circulating tumor DNA in the bloodstream to detect signals associated with many cancer types — including cancers that currently have no routine screening tests.

How Galleri Was Developed

Galleri was developed by GRAIL, a biotechnology company focused exclusively on early cancer detection. The test uses advanced genomic sequencing and machine-learning techniques to identify tiny fragments of DNA that cancer cells shed into the bloodstream.

Galleri has been evaluated in large clinical studies involving tens of thousands of participants, with additional prospective trials ongoing. These studies have helped establish how the test performs across different cancer types and stages.

Performance You Should Know

  • Detects signals from more than 50 cancers with a single blood test.
  • High specificity (~99.5%), meaning false positives are uncommon.
  • Sensitivity varies by cancer type and stage, with stronger performance for certain aggressive and later-stage cancers.
  • Clinical research shows that adding Galleri to standard screening can significantly increase overall cancer detection.

In practical terms, this means that if Galleri detects a cancer signal, it is unlikely to be a false alarm. That low false-positive rate is an important feature in screening tests, where unnecessary follow-up testing can cause anxiety and lead to additional procedures.

At the same time, Galleri does not detect every cancer, and it does not replace recommended screening tests such as mammograms, colonoscopies, or Pap smears. It is intended to be used in addition to standard screening.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Broad multi-cancer screening capability.
  • Very low false-positive rate.
  • Often provides information about where a cancer signal may be coming from in the body.

Limitations

  • Not all cancers shed enough DNA to be detected in blood.
  • Performance varies by cancer type.
  • Less effective for certain cancers, including prostate cancer.
  • Not a diagnostic test — positive results require follow-up testing and medical evaluation.

Who Might Benefit Most

Galleri is generally recommended for adults over age 50 or individuals with elevated cancer risk. It may be especially valuable for detecting cancers that do not have routine screening options.

This test is best viewed as an additional layer of insight — not a replacement for primary care or specialist-directed screening.

Pricing & Limited-Time Offer

The standard price for the Galleri test is $899. We’re offering a special introductory price of $799 through the end of March. After March 1st, the price returns to $899.

Galleri Test FAQs

Does Galleri replace mammograms, colonoscopies, or other standard screenings?

No. Galleri is designed to complement existing cancer screening tools, not replace them. You should continue all age- and risk-appropriate screenings recommended by your healthcare providers.

What happens if my Galleri test is positive?

A positive result means a cancer signal was detected and follow-up testing is recommended. Galleri often provides information about where the signal is likely coming from, which helps guide next steps with your medical team.

How accurate is the Galleri test?

Galleri has a very low false-positive rate (about 0.5%), meaning false alarms are uncommon. Sensitivity varies by cancer type and stage.

Are there cancers Galleri does not detect well?

Yes. Galleri is less sensitive for certain cancers, including some slow-growing or early-stage tumors, and it does not reliably detect prostate cancer.

Who is Galleri best suited for?

Galleri is generally recommended for adults over age 50 or those with increased cancer risk. It may be particularly helpful for screening cancers without routine testing options.

Is Galleri FDA-approved?

Galleri is not yet FDA-approved, but it has been evaluated in large clinical studies and is currently available as a laboratory-developed test.

How often should the Galleri test be done?

Galleri is typically performed annually, similar to other preventive screening tests.

What does the test involve?

The test requires a single blood draw. Results are usually available within a few weeks.

How much does it cost?

The standard price is $899. We’re offering a limited-time introductory price of $799 through March.
