Top 10 Ways to Stay Healthy & Productive in 2009

1. Set low expectations. That’s right. Less is more. If you’re not exercising regularly, commit to two days per week when you will exercise for at least 30 minutes. When you have done this for a month, add a third day. Repeat.

2. Remove the word “worry” from your dictionary
. Worry is a completely useless emotion and serves only to immobilize you and bring your worry to reality. Instead focus on the two or three activities that will help you achieve a specific goal.

3. Pack your lunch.
This will save your money and your health. Pack leftovers and always include a fruit (apple) or vegetable (carrots/celery) and some raw nuts (almonds) for snacking. Also pack water so you have no excuse for not drinking it. If you eat the healthy stuff first, then you have permission to have a small piece of your Aunt Bunny’s fruit cake.

4. Step away from your work. Studies show that the greatest indicator of happiness is amount of time spent with family and friends, not the size of your bank account.

5. Eat more (frequently).
Smaller, more frequent meals are better for you. Make sure you get a bit of protein at each meal to give you sustained energy.

6. Meditate. Just 10 minutes once a day will give you a chance to disconnect from your never-ending to-do list. A simple meditation focuses on breathing. When your mind wanders, just come back to the breath.

7. Use affirmations. Every action (and related outcome) starts with a thought. Instead of letting negative thoughts (I don’t have enough… time, money, etc.) rule your mind. Write down "I" statements (I have wealth and abundance; I exercise two days per week) that focus on what’s important.

8. Personal  development.
This is “me” time and gives you a chance to feed yourself so you can give to others- especially your family. This can be as simple as taking a yoga class one day per week.

9. Get enough sleep. This may be eight hours or less for you, but make sure you get it. Packing more work into the late hours leads to impaired productivity in the following days.

10. See Your Acupuncturist. A no-brainer! You can’t do it all yourself. Sometimes you need someone to hit the “reset” button. I'm here to help.

Here's to a healthy and productive 2009! Lynn and I look forward to hearing from you.
