Summer Vacation!

Summer is finally here and it’s time for a vacation. In fact, it’s always time for vacation. In this fast-paced climate of Silicon Valley, there’s a constant scramble to keep up or be overrun. Reality or perception? Well, that all depends if you believe it or not.

True, there is real work to be done, but that will always be the case—unless you make a change. On a daily basis I see people who are completely exhausted, overwhelmed, and who don’t see a way out. You must take vacations or there will be nothing left when it’s time to retire. If your job won’t allow it, find a new one. There is always a way to make money and maintain your quality of life, it just takes the courage to do it. In the meantime, I’m here to support you through your work and family life to the best of my ability. Please come in and I’ll be sure and remind you to take a vacation. I’ll even write a doctor’s note for your boss!

Acupuncture & Insomnia

One of the most common ailments we treat is insomnia. If you have insomnia, you know its debilitating effects can have implications on your quality of life. Acupuncture treatment can help restore balance to your body and return you to restful sleep.

It's important to first understand what the cause of insomnia is. Are you bogged down by stress or chronic pain? Are you battling an addiction? Insomnia stems from many issues, and prescription treatments may produce side-effects such as drowsiness or confusion. However, acupuncture regularly produces effective results in areas such as chronic pain relief and stress/anxiety disorders without drugs or side-effects.

If you suffer from chronic sleeplessness, there is hope! It might be as simple as a short-term treatment plan or it might entail working with your doctor on a way to address your needs. Contact Peninsula Acupuncture to learn more about the root cause of your insomnia.

Herbal Spotlight: Shiitake Mushrooms

Shiitake mushrooms are a tasty addition to any recipe, but they offer more than just a great smoky flavor. Long recognized by Chinese medicine, studies show that an active compound called lentinan – a known immune system booster with anti-tumor properties – is one of the main reasons why shiitake mushrooms contribute to good health.

Shiitake mushrooms also contain eritadenine, a compound known to lower cholesterol. They also contain high levels of anti-oxidants for general health benefits. In short, the shiitake mushroom doesn't just taste great -- it comes with many properties that can help you live a long and healthy life.
